Hi, I’m Shannon

Senior Product Designer at Muddy Gecko

An AI-Driven Job Search Platform Built From Zero to One

In this job market, it's crucial to be one of the first candidates to apply. Don't count on LinkedIn. Get job alerts directly from company career pages for as little as $5 a month.

Overview

JobNab.ai is an AI-powered job search platform that monitors company career pages in real time and alerts users the moment new roles are posted. I’m the founding Product Designer and led the end-to-end design of the MVP, including the UX strategy, visual identity, interaction design, and the full mobile and desktop experience.

Using an accelerated, AI-enhanced workflow, I designed and shipped the product from concept to launch, working closely with my co-founder to validate ideas, prioritize a lean roadmap, and deliver a functional MVP to a growing base of job seekers.

Problem Space

Let’s be real, the job market is terrible. Job seekers rely heavily on job boards, which often show stale or delayed postings. High-quality jobs are usually filled before they ever reach public aggregators. This creates a disadvantage for users who need to apply early, especially in competitive industries where timing is everything.

We needed a platform that:

  • Pulls job listings directly from company career pages
  • Notifies users instantly
  • Reduces the noise of generic job boards
  • Gives job seekers a real timing advantage

Research & Insights

Early Discovery

To shape the MVP, I interviewed job seekers across tech, healthcare, design, and administrative roles to understand:

  • Where they actually find jobs
  • Pain points in job board ecosystems
  • How frequently they search
  • What triggers them to apply
  • What features feel essential vs. overwhelming

Key Insights

  • Users want speed over everything. Being first matters.
  • Job boards feel repetitive because they scrape the same listings.
  • Job seekers check certain target companies repeatedly but forget others.
  • Users want alerts, but not noise — relevance and control are crucial.

These insights shaped the core value proposition: real-time, company-first listings with personalized alerts.

“Employers get so many qualified applicants within the first 48 hours of posting that they won’t even review others that come in later. This means timing isn’t just important – it’s absolutely critical.”

The Interview Guys | “The Job Application Black Hole: When Are The Worst Times To Apply?”

Core users

Job seekers

Job seekers are actively in the market and feel the urgency of today’s competitive hiring landscape. For them, timing is everything. They want to be alerted the moment a role is posted so they can apply early, stand out, and avoid the delays that happen when relying on aggregated job boards. This group checks multiple career pages regularly, feels constant pressure to move fast, and values speed, accuracy, and clarity above all else.

Job huggers

Job huggers aren’t ready to leave their current role, but they’re always keeping an eye out for something better. They’re overwhelmed by the job market, don’t have time to search every day, and often bookmark a small list of “dream companies” they’d move for. For this group, JobNab.ai acts like a quiet background assistant. They can track their target companies and receive alerts only when something meaningful posts, helping them stay aware without actively searching.

Design Process

Zero-to-One Product Definition

I mapped the entire product ecosystem, identifying the core flows required to ship the MVP:

  • Marketing landing page
  • User onboarding and account creation
  • Personalized job alert setup
  • Dashboard overview of tracked companies
  • Role-specific filtering + controls
  • Notification preferences
  • Profile and settings management

This helped us create a lean scope we could ship quickly while keeping room for iterative growth.

Beta Testing & Iteration

We launched a private beta to a small set of early job seekers and collected feedback on:

  • How clear the value proposition was
  • Which companies they wanted to track
  • Thoughts on pricing options
  • Where they got stuck or confused
  • What features they expected next

Key Improvements From Beta Feedback

  • Improved onboarding clarity around adding “company career page URLs”
  • Improved clarity around pricing
  • Bug fixes on adding/updating/deleting career page URLs and job title preferences

Launch & Growth

After refining the MVP, we released JobNab.ai to the public. Our focus is now converting free trialers to paying customers,

  • Increased traffic through targeted social + content
  • Converted initial free trials into paying users
  • Expanded supported companies and industries
  • Continued weekly product improvements based on feedback

We’re steadily growing our user base while staying focused on high-quality alerts and real-time accuracy.
